About Terrace Bar and Food

Set on the Lyttleton side of the famous National Theatre, Terrace Bar and Food is a popular addition to the South Bank icon. With views over the Thames and a warehouse feel to the simple, modern décor the Terrace is a chic, urban hangout where young professionals and arty types come to enjoy a few drinks and nibbles before a show or just because. The concrete ceilinged dining room is always busy and buzzy but in the summer months the action moves out on to the terrace where the sun is soaked up and London views taken in. In addition to nibbles with a Middle Eastern flavour and a don’t-miss-it mezze board heartier meals can be enjoyed as a full dish or as smaller mezze portions.

The Terrace Bar at the National is an excellent place for pre-theatre entertainment. It's spacious and relaxed and the service is friendly and reasonably prompt. There's a wide variety of starter-size plates of food with an interesting combination of ingredients. We chose 6 for the four of us, which worked well, and there's a reasonable selection of wines by the glass. It's very difficult to find, however, and not well signposted.

The Terrace Bar at the National Theatre in London was convenient for us as we were attending a play there. The tapas-style menu was nice but a bit incongruous - raclette and French dishes alongside falafel and Greek dishes. The food was nice enough but the service and surroundings only OK.

Might use again if going to the theatre but not the finest the South Bank has to offer, and the other National Theatre eating establishments are better.

At the Terrace bar and food at the National Theatre our waiter was delightful and helpful, the sound of music drifting up from the performance below enjoyable and the food was good too - an interesting mezze selection.

We went to Terrace Bar at the National Theatre for dinner. Enjoyed the view and vibe, what with the live background music that day. Food was delicious and small plates a great concept to try many dishes. Recommend for a light and easy evening.

As always, the pre-theatre meal at the Terrace Bar and Food was excellent. We had the Mixed Meze for 2 which we hadn't tried before and found it to be fantastic value for money (£22 for bread, a dip, frittata, two salads and 2 good size 'small mains'. Wine by the carafe was good too and the service cannot be faulted. For a quick, healthy, delicious meal before the theatre you cannot beat it.

Terrace Bar and Food at national Theatre ideal if you're looking for a mezze type pre theatre meal. Good selection and very tasty, though lamb kebabs only fair to middlin.

Excellent

We enjoyed yet another pre-theatre meal at the Terrace last night. They were even busier than usual, but still managed to provide a quick and efficient service and good value food and wine. The small plates are really not that small! The tuna was delicious as usual but the pork belly (huge helping!) was a little dry, but still tasty. The only downside was that the live music downstairs was a bit loud. However for a quick pre-theatre meal you really can't beat it. We will definitely be back!

Had a pre-theatre dinner at Terrace Bar & Food, which was excellent. Service was prompt and at the right level of attention. Food is served tapas-style, so we ordered a variety of dishes to share. The courgettes in batter, particularly, were scrumptious - light and crispy, melt-in-your-mouth! The staff are clearly used to pre-theatre diners - it only took one request for the bill, which came within a minute, was dealt with uber-efficiently with a smile, and we were done in 40 minutes.

good service. good food. very convenient.

We ate before the show at the Terrace Bar and Food. It wasn't too crowded and the service was friendly and very good. We chose a selection of various different "little plates" which divided quite easily into four small portions, and had a wide variety of tapas-style food. We probably ate more than we planned that way but it wasn't too expensive, and fun to mix and match. The only unsuccessful plate was rabbit with beans -- too wet to eat with a fork. Definitely recommended.

First time at the Terrace Bar and Food - and will be using it often in the future. Great food - small, fresh plates which were great for sharing - in a relaxed atmosphere and with good service. Ideal for pre-theatre. It's slightly hidden away on a mezzanine floor -- well worth discovering. Especially recommend the baked cod. Some wonderful views of the Thames - and looks like there would be outside tables in the summer.

We ate in the National Theatre's Terrace Bar before seeing a play there. It was great for that and a pleasant enough venue. I imagine it could be really nice in summer (terrace overlooking the Thames). The food (we had veggie mezze) was good and the staff were attentive. Overall, good but not outstanding - perfect for a casual meal but I wouldn't choose it for special occasions.

Finding the Terrace Bar at the National Theatre was a little tricky but when we did it was worth the hunt! The ambience was great, very chilled and we were left in peace which was perfect. The food was tapas style with lots of different influences but everything we had was great. A lovely find.

We booked the Terrace Bar at the national as we were going to see a play and we did not want to go far from the theatre. We did not expect a Meze menu. However, the food was very good a service in good time even though the place was packed. We selected from the menu rather than have the reccommended meze meal which was good value at £20. Very enjoyable.

Friendly staff, tasty food and reasobable prices. I will be back!

The ambience at Terrace Bar and Food London was great due to the live music in the National theatre foyer. The food, vegetarian middle eastern style tapas, was nice and reasonable value but not particularly exciting. We didn't realise they would close at 8.30pm!

The Terrace Bar & Food is consistently good and very handy before a play at the National - good food, good and prompt service.

Terrace Bar and Food in London is located in the National Theatre. I went there for lunch with a friend on a Saturday and ordered the sharers Meze platter. At £20 I thought that it felt a little expensive for what we were brought. The dishes tasted wonderful but the portions could have been larger. I think the amount of food we were each served would probably have been acceptable at £7 - £8 per head rather than £10. Ambience was very quiet, service was OK.

The Terrace Bar and Food is a great venue for a pre-theatre supper. The menu has some great little dishes to share - such as yellow fin tuna and green beans and pork belly with black pudding. Add a couple of vegetable things and you've got enough for two. Pretty good value and the wine is decent too. Speedy and friendly service. We'll be back next time.
